Short answer. A simple site starts around KSh 15,000 to 40,000. A proper business site is usually KSh 60,000 to KSh 250,000. An online shop starts around KSh 150,000 and goes up with product count.
Long answer below. It matters, because two quotes for the same words can differ by ten times and both can be reasonable.
What other people charge
Published Kenyan price guides in 2026 broadly agree on these ranges.
- Single page or landing page. About KSh 10,000 to 40,000.
- Small business site, three to ten pages. About KSh 25,000 to 100,000.
- Online shop. About KSh 40,000 to KSh 300,000 and above.
- Custom or corporate. From KSh 100,000 to well past KSh 500,000.
Then ongoing costs. A .co.ke domain is about KSh 1,000 to 2,000 a year. Hosting is about KSh 2,000 to 10,000 a year at the cheap end. Maintenance is commonly quoted at KSh 2,000 to 10,000 a month.
Why the ranges are so wide
Because the same three words describe very different amounts of work.
1. How much is built versus filled in
Ten pages using one layout is cheaper than five pages that are each a different idea. Page count is a weak signal. Count distinct designs instead.
2. Payments and connections
M-Pesa at checkout. A card gateway. A booking system. Linking to stock you already run. Each one is a build plus testing plus every way it can fail.
3. How many products
Twenty products is an afternoon. Four hundred with sizes, photos and descriptions is a project of its own. On most shop quotes this is the largest single line.
4. Who writes the words
If you hand over finished text, the build is faster. If someone researches and writes it, that is real work. It is also usually the difference between a site that gets found and one that does not.
5. The invisible foundation
Structure, speed, structured data, indexing, analytics, conversion tracking. Cheap to do during the build. Expensive to add later. This is what is missing from most cheap quotes.
What you get at each price
Under KSh 30,000. A template with your logo. It exists. Nobody researched what your customers search for. That is a real product and for some businesses it is the right call.
KSh 60,000 to KSh 150,000. A site designed for your business, with pages aimed at things people actually type, and the technical basics done.
KSh 150,000 to KSh 350,000. The above plus written content, speed work, structured data, tracking, and a real plan for where visitors come from.
Above KSh 350,000. Shops with large catalogues, custom features, or connections to systems you already run.
How to compare two quotes
Ask both people the same five questions.
- Which pages will exist and why those ones?
- Who writes the words?
- What happens about speed?
- Will Search Console and Analytics be set up, in my name?
- Who owns the domain and the hosting at the end?
The cheap quote usually goes quiet on questions two, three and four.
